Springville Series: South Buffalo Street Log Cabin

View of South Buffalo Street around 1900. Visible is the "log cabin,"
constructed in 1882 by the Ladies of the Relief Corps
for the enjoyment of Civil War veterans. Next door is the Springville fire hall.
Both sit on land donated by prominent
local citizen, John P. Myers.

The same scene in 2005. The fire hall was demolished when a new building was
constructed on Franklin Street in 1935.
The log cabin continued to provide space for veterans until the American Legion
built a new building in recent years and
sold the log cabin to a private owner for use as a residence.
Looking up South Buffalo from the other direction, c. 1900. The fire department
is visible at right. Children are gazing
over the bridge at the Spring Brook below.

The same view in 2005. With the fire department building gone, the log cabin
is visible at right. Note that the street has been
"straightened" over the Spring Brook during a modern road reconstruction.
