The German Insurance Building, designed by Richard A. Waite, was completed in
1875. Six stories
tall, its facades were of cast iron. For more information on architect Waite,
see the
Winter 2004 issue
of the Heritage Press magazine.

1907
The German Insurance Building remained a prominent landmark in downtown Buffalo
for 82 years. On the Main Street side it was
adjacent to the William Hengerer department store; on the Lafayette side it
was adjacent to a building occupied at one time
by the Olympic Theater).

2003
In 1957, the German Insurance Building was demolished to make way for the 26-story
Tishman Building,
designed by Emory Roth & Sons. The skycraper on the right of it is the 29-story
Rand Building, constructed in 1929.
